Australia has no shortage of beautiful places to visit. We are incredibly lucky to have so much to see and do, right in our own backyard. And Lord Howe Island is definitely one destination that should be on every Aussie’s domestic travel list. Why? Here are five reasons…
1. Sir David Attenborough says it’s awesome
Sir David Attenborough once described Lord Howe Island as “so extraordinary it is almost unbelievable”. Popular among nature lovers who hike its myriad walking trails; snorkel and dive the world’s southernmost barrier reef to spot endemic species like the black-and-white McCulloch’s anemonefish; or just find the perfect vantage point to sit in meditation with its Jurassic peaks.
2. It’s on National Geographic’s ‘Best of the World’ list
National Geographic has named Lord Howe Island one of its best destinations for 2021 as part of the annual Best of the World list. Calling it ‘a last paradise in the Tasman Sea’, the editors marvel at Lord Howe’s pristine coral reef and the Protecting Paradise Program that is committed to preserving the island’s unique ecosystem.
3. Herring Pools
Bike or walk to North Bay, then head along the flat boardwalk to The Gulch. At low tide you can rock-hop around to the Herrings, which are a series of rock pools filled with a diverse range of colourful fish. Crystal clear water, it’s like being in an aquarium.
4. What our clients love
There are so many reasons to visit this world heritage listed island. For us are the pristine water, beaches, forests walks, the short flight, the fact that the whole family old and young have so many activities to keep them entertained. Our family agrees that it is without a doubt the most beautiful unspoilt paradise in the world and our No 1 favourite family holiday.
It’s unpretentious, casual, no snakes, the birds, the fishing, jetty jumping, snorkelling. Oh…not forgetting awesome cocktails at the Crooked Post overlooking the lagoon & mountains.
5. One of the best Walks in Australia.
“It’s like being transported to the Jurassic age” said Louise. The terrain is varied, the Moss or Mist forest at the summit is something you have to see to believe.
The Mt Gower hike, possibly one of the best day hikes in Australia. It’s a strenuous grade 10 track, covering just 13km but with a tricky rise of 875m. Worth the effort? Absolutely!
Lord Howe Island has something for everyone, and is just a two hour flight from Sydney. If you would like to learn more about this beautiful spot, please get in touch with us today.
