Everybody deserves some ‘decompression leave’ from life’s busy pace, that was the catalyst for our 4 day escape and it certainly did the trick.
Greeted by traditional Fijian singing, a refreshing drink and a seamless check-in, before we knew it we were unpacked in our Villa and ready to explore. The choice of east or west of the island is a moot point, depending on the sea breezes and your preference for a rising or setting sun. Tough choices are few and far between on Kokomo…like “what are we going to do today?” and “where would you like to eat tonight?”.
The food was creative in its variety, often dependent on the catch of the day and seasonality of self sufficient garden . On a small island, menu variety is challenging for most kitchens, but Kokomo excels in this regard.
Of the wide variety of water sport, we chose to go snorkelling on Day 1. It’s a big call, but without doubt “the best coral reef we’ve snorkelled for a long time”. So many reef systems have left us unexcited, but this was something else. Vivid colours, the healthiest and widest variety of corals we can recall, made all the interesting with a private Marine Biologist by your side to answer any questions.
You can do as much or as little as you want at Kokomo. Indulge yourself in spa treatments, or kayak around the island. We walked to the highest peak where the views to neighbouring islands was spectacular. Standing tall is a new communication tower, so it’s no wonder the Wi-Fi is a bit like the reef….”the best we’ve had for a long time”. Again, the choice is yours, ignore modern technology for the ideal detox or embrace the fastest wi-fi in the Pacific.
We opted for a tour of the island and all that it offers. The Residences are beautiful and modern in design, with artworks consistent across the entire range of Villas. Beachside Villas have great floorplans, and can be readily adapted to suit most family configurations.
So three days & nights was all it took to go from Dead Flat Battery to Fully Charged, but we were warned. “You won’t want to leave” they said.
So be warned, “you won’t want to leave either!”
