Over the years we’ve heard some incredible stories about hotel stays, good and bad. In a recent guest survey, a New Zealand hotel company learned from guests what they really liked and disliked about their hotel experience. The responses were hilarious and surprising.
Let’s start with the weird and wacky amenities guests had experienced; singing toilet seats (common in Japan), a cat in the room ‘to make you feel at home’, ashtrays in non-smoking rooms, a gun guide and gentlemen’s club listing (only in America), free underwear, condoms in the mini bar and an in-room bread maker complete with a loaf of freshly baked bread.
The majority of respondents were women in their forties, Gen Y and Baby Boomers who were travelling offshore at least once a year. A mere 65% of respondents fessed up to taking home the shampoo and moisturiser, and we thought everyone did that!
Not surprisingly, respondents liked the hotels that offered free Wi-Fi, a room with a view, daily housekeeping and breakfast. Here’s what they didn’t like; the turn down service, the magazine selection or the in-room bible. And, they loved the hotels where more practical amenities were included, like luggage scales, complimentary yoga mats and iPhones to take with you for GPS and maps.
So what’s on your list of likes? A cat in the room, well maybe not but dog fanciers may be interested to know that the luxurious Rosewood Hotel London, prides itself on being pet friendly and offers canine packages complete with special amenities for man’s best friend.
